Denna sidan är en del av projektet SUPER, som underlättar standardinstallationer av SUSE.

Installation med en CD låter dig installera antingen ett grundläggande SUSE-system (standard kde, minimal eller gnome) på 1 CD eller en version modifierad med SLICK. Båda versionerna kan uppdateras med YOU. SLICK kan även uppdateras till bleeding edge-kod med kynaptic/apt. Ytterligare mjukvara för standardversionen kan installeras genom att använda de officiella yast-paketkällorna eller DVD-versionen. Ytterligare mjukvara för SLICK kan även de installeras via de officiella paketkällorna och DVD-versionen, men även genom att använda kynaptic, vilket är det föredragna sättet för SLICK. En 1 CD-installation är endast en bas för att få tillgång till SUSEs alla paket.

Standard openSUSE

Båda ISO-filerna är 1 CD-installationer utan några modifikationer på de aktuella paketen. ISO-filerna är helt och hållet standardversioner av SUSE, och kallas därför standard-kde och standard-minimal. Dessa underhålls av SUPER-teamet. Mer information om hur man skapar sådana ISO-filer kan hittas under Utveckling.

Dessa ISOs är inte detsamma som standardversionen av uppstartsmediet för internetinstallation, vilket inte innehåller några paket och beskrivs här.

Förbättrad openSUSE

En samling ISO-filer med inkluderade SLICK-modifikationer finns tillgängliga innan den slutgilitga produkten släpps. Dessa ISOs kallas -modified.iso'. ISO-filen från 20051001 var felaktig, var vänlig ladda ner den nyaste ISO-filen (Länk nedanför).

SLICK och SUPER

Slim KDE 1 CD-installation med förbättrad prestanda, Kynaptic och KLIK. Inkluderar CK-patchar. Feedback direkt till andreas@linux.co.nz.

Notera att vid första uppstarten, under SuSEconfig , gör installationen en prelink på hela systemet för första gången. Detta tar vanligtvis 15-30 minuter. Följande gånger prelinkas bara uppdaterade paket vilket gör att det går mycket snabbare.

För att uppdatera, använd kynaptic. De tre ikonerna på toppanelen ska klickas på en och en. Den första ikonen uppdaterar apt-indexen. Den andra ikonen markerar de uppdaterade paketen och den tredje ikonen laddar ner och installerar uppdateringarna. Man kan använda Edit --> Find för att söka efter ett specifikt paket, t.ex. "fglrx " för ati-drivrutinen.

Om du har en SLICK-ISO från September, var vänlig lägg till följande källor i /etc/apt/sources.list

För närvarande kan nedladdning med BitTorrent ta ett tag eftersom det inte alltid finns en seeder online. Allteftersom torrenten sprids kommer detta problemet att försvinna.

Det verkar som om det fortfarande är problem med SLICK. Jag har laddat ner super-SLICK-RC1-20051003-modified-kde.iso, och jag har ignen user.sel och jag kan inte importera någon *.sel i suse/setup/descr/ ... Kan man komma runt det? Tack!

Binära videodrivrutiner

ATI: Använd kynaptic för att installera "fglrx" (kernel-sources och gcc kommer också hämtas) och kör sedan följande i konsollen:
sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx -b /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/sax2-profile
Stäng, testa och spara den nya konfigurationen, stäng sax2 och starta om X.

NVIDIA: Använd kynaptic för att installera "nvidia" (kernel-sources och gcc kommer också hämtas) och starta om X.

How to create your own 1 CD install

The iso's are done using the standard recommended Novell way. It contains a modified control.xml to have a more streamlined installation. We have tried to add /boot and /home (you can see that in the control.xml, but for some reason it ignores it, maybe a suse.de person can give us a hint? Apart from that it is a straight install of beta4. My.sel was added under suse/setup/descr, which contains the needed packages. All in all a very straight forward process.

Preparation

File locations are examples and should be changed to suit your environment or disk space.

Create a DVD structure with Making a DVD from CDs in /yast

# makeSUSEdvd -i -s /yast

Create the iso holding directory in /super and your iso directory in /super/SUPER

# mkdir -p /super/SUPER

copy the important files over to the iso dir.

Configuration

Modify control.xml in the top dir to suit your needs. Here one of mine control.xml.

COMMENT: If you try to add a fixed software set to the control.xml use the <base_selection> tag instead of <base> - Marcus

Novell control.xml documentation

A My.sel file needs to be created following the Novell Document and you can add package names to your standard install by using apt on a XEN virtual machine you can install by following this: How to setup SUSE Linux 10.0 under Xen in SUSE Linux 9.3. That way you are able to install the needed dependencies to a machine and create the My.sel file in suse/setup/descr. After that you can copy each package from /yast/suse/i586 or /yast/suse/noarch or /yast/suse/i686 to /super/SUPER/suse/i586. Here is an example. My.sel.minimal and My.sel.kde

Creation of iso

The following will create an iso out of SUPER as SUPER.iso in /super. As you can see if there is a SUPER.kde directory it will also create a SUPER.kde.iso when given the value kde as $1. This will be extended to cater for gnome. The optimized SUPER iso's are going to be similar as the only difference should be a seperate control.xml and different packages.
You need to have installed, mkisofs and "Yast2 autoinstall tools".

In case you need to modify the initrd to for example put an autoinstall.xml into it here a hint how to manipulate it (took me a lot of googling to sort this out)

From one release to the other I use a script.

you must have the above old /super/ structure available
you must have a new set of iso's and you must have replaced /yast/ with those
Download this tar file and untar it

# cd / ; tar -zxf /tmp/runup.tgz

Once you have the above setup you can run the following to simply create an updated minimal system

# cd /super ; ./runup ; docd

To create a new kde system

# cd /super ; ./runup kde ; docd kde

Plastik Widget Style missing.
Kynaptic doesn't work well, seems that is installing but not. Must use SMART, it works !
A Kynaptic alternative may be Kubuntu's Adept Package Manager and Adept-Updater. Project Home Page
Update selection is probably redundant
USB Motorola Surfboard Modem, doesn't load correctly in installation ( Yast says there is no module ), you need to set up like a Ethernet ( not usb ) and specify to use "usbnet" module. Maybe is the same with others USB cable modem.
Cardmngr does not auto-recognise and config pcmcia 10/100 ethernet: RP-1638-V2, manually config, misses files: Not able to connect internet.

KDE Resources and .hidden in the Applications menu

With the new menu editor in Gnome 2.12, you can remove the .hidden by unticking each item it contains, this doesn't work for the KDE Resources however.--Pflodo 15:52, 10 Sep 2005 (MDT)

The issue is that the installation adds these items so there's not much I can do about it (apart from removing K3B from the install)--mboman
